Not liking what we see
In yesterday’s post, I prayed for open eyes, ears, and heart. Here’s the question: what happens when we don’t like what we see or hear?
Well it can be tough – it is human nature to respond back when we hear something that does not sit well with our soul; and likewise when we see something that does not sit well with our soul. It makes it hard for our heart to be open for love.
What is love? It is willing the good for another. So how did Christ handle what is seen and heard? He did this in 1 Peter 2:22-24: “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead he handed himself over to the one who judges justly. He himself bore sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness.”
I believe we can honestly say this is very hard to do, in the highly opinionated world we live in, where everything is criticized and judged. However, these words from Psalm 141:3: “Set a guard, Lord, before my mouth keep watch over the door of my lips” have helped me tremendously in times past and to this day! We all strive to do better than the day before – that’s the grace that God gives us. So maybe, just maybe, we can tackle the day in this way… with the Lord’s hand over our mouths, keeping guard that we do not fall into the stain of sin. Where we hurt especially those whom we love. If we want to be filled with living water, this is a beginning.
In 2 Cor 1:3 we rest in the love that is laid out for us: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all encouragement.” Peace to you all in Christ Jesus + today and always.
